Koh Phangan has no shortage of places to eat, but the best restaurants Koh Phangan has to offer by the sea are a shorter list — the ones where the setting matters as much as what’s on the plate, and the ones we keep coming back to ourselves.
Here are three of our favourites: a beach bar built into the sand, a laid-back spot on Hin Kong beach open from breakfast to sunset, and a French-inspired table that comes alive after dark. Each is within easy reach of Villa Altura, and each has earned its place through years of quiet, consistent good food rather than a single flashy season.
Lost ‘N Found Beach Bar
Set right on the sand of Secret Beach, Lost ‘N Found enjoys one of the most beautiful settings on Koh Phangan. Between the small palm-fringed bay, the turquoise water and the relaxed atmosphere that lingers throughout the day, the place naturally invites you to slow down.
Many visitors come for the beach first, only to discover that the food is just as good. The menu blends Thai cuisine, seafood and international dishes, in a setting that sums up the island’s tropical spirit on its own.
It’s a particularly pleasant spot for lunch, or for extending an afternoon swim into a meal facing the sea.
Kikekla
Set on Hin Kong beach, Kikekla is one of those restaurants that’s easy to recommend, appealing to all kinds of travellers.
The atmosphere is simple, welcoming and true to the spirit of Koh Phangan. Whether you stop by for a late breakfast, a lunch with your feet in the sand or a relaxed dinner at sunset, the experience stays consistently good. The kitchen combines Thai specialities, seafood and Western dishes, with close attention paid to the quality of the ingredients.
With its open view over the bay and its easy-going atmosphere, Kikekla is one of those places where you often end up staying longer than planned.
L’Alcove
For an evening by the sea, L’Alcove holds a place of its own on Koh Phangan. Also set on the Hin Kong coastline, the restaurant pairs French-inspired cuisine with an atmosphere that shifts as the night unfolds.
At sunset, the wooden terraces offer a remarkable view over the bay. Then, as night falls, the place gradually comes alive with live music, shows and various performances that shape its singular atmosphere.
Between dinner, live music and the sunset itself, L’Alcove offers an experience that goes well beyond the meal, and is often one of the standout moments of a stay on the island.
All three are close enough to Villa Altura that dinner by the sea never means giving up the drive back in the dark. Aim for late afternoon at Lost ‘N Found to catch the light change over Secret Beach, treat Kikekla as your easy, unplanned option whenever the mood strikes, and book ahead for L’Alcove on weekends, when the live music draws a crowd.
